China Visa-Free for Australians in 2026: Everything You Need to Know

Travel Tips • 8 min read

In a significant policy shift, China has added Australia to its visa-free entry list. As of 2025, eligible Australian passport holders can enter China for up to 30 days without a visa — for tourism, transit, and short business purposes.

What Changed?

China's visa-free policy now covers Australian citizens for stays up to 30 days. This removes a significant barrier to travel — previously, Australians needed to apply for an L-type tourist visa.

Who Is Eligible?

Australian passport holders with a passport valid for at least 6 months from date of entry. The visa-free arrangement covers tourism, transit, business visits, and family visits.

What About Longer Stays?

For tours exceeding 30 days (such as our 21-day Exquisite China tour — well within the limit), the visa-free entry is perfect. For stays over 30 days, a standard tourist visa is still required.

Tibet Exception

Tibet requires a separate Tibet Travel Permit (TTP) regardless of your visa status. This must be arranged through a licensed Chinese travel agency — which we handle automatically for tours that include Tibet.
